"I am a fifth year microbiology major and college certainly has been a long and unexpected journey for me! As a first generation college attendee and a transfer student, I didn't always have the resources or wisdom to help guide me in my academic career. I did, however, grow up seeing my parents work extremely hard to make a living from the ground up. I like to believe that I inherited their strong work ethic and that is why I received the Excellence in STEM Award from UC Davis. This award was given to me for my academic achievement at UC Davis as a transfer student. It was presented to me at the recent STEM Transfer Day, which was held for community college STEM students all over California. As a graduating senior, it felt amazing to receive this award when just a few years ago transferring to a university seemed like an impossible feat. "
Check out how our sister, Staci Taniguchi, has been helping the world, one smile at a time!
"I am a third year NPB major and an aspiring dentist. In this photo I am doing a presentation on oral hygiene for a program called Smile Savers. Smile Savers visits schools in the Davis area and gives information on the importance of good dental hygiene, regular dental visits, and provides free dental screenings for kids ranging from preschoolers to middle school students. This volunteer position is not only extremely fulfilling, but has helped develop my professional skills, dental knowledge, and passion for dentistry even further!"
