"Buongiorno (good day/hello) from Italy! For as long as I can remember, my grandma has told me that once I graduated college she would take me on a trip, just the two of us, anywhere I wanted to go. Now as a recent alumni of UC Davis, my grandma and I are traveling through Italy! So far we have been to Rome and Positano, and are now in Florence! The remainder of our trip will take us to Santa Margherita, Verona, and Venice, plus stops at other places along the way. I have had an absolutely amazing time learning about the rich history of Italy, exploring the beautiful sights, and eating all the yummy food. I am so grateful to be experiencing this once in a lifetime trip!"
Our official Rush flyer will be released within a week. STAY TUNED!
"I'm studying abroad for the summer taking two weeks of courses at the University of Vienna in Austria and two weeks and Clare College in Cambridge, UK. I'm studying genetics in the very places that famous scientists and fathers of genetics, Gregor Mendel, James Watson and Francis Crick made their discoveries. It has been such an awesome summer exploring these beautiful cities and very humbling to be around such intelligence."
Leta celebrated her 22nd birthday in Yosemite this weekend! She biked and hiked all throughout the valley, seeing all of the main landmarks such as El Capitan and Half Dome. Her favorite part was having a break from cell/internet service & stargazing at Glacier’s Point.
"During the beginning of summer, I served as a counselor for MDA Camp down in San Diego. At camp, each counselor is paired up with a camper with Muscular Dystrophy and I was fortunate enough to be paired up with Keyrin (the girl with the awesome rainbow hair). To many campers, camp is known as "The Best Week of the Year." During that week, we watched "Big Hero" in the forest underneath the stars, had a ventriloquist come perform, had a showcase of snakes, owls, and birds, played laser tag, and much much more! By being around these kids and knowing how much they are affected by this disease, they have become my source of inspiration and the ones that I look up to."

"I am super excited to have found this amazing opportunity as an intern at the Center for Aquaculture Technologies in San Diego, CA. I am able to work alongside molecular, genetic, and marine biologists, and be exposed to revolutionary scientific projects aimed at increasing the sustainability of aquaculture as a food source and economy. 70 to 75 million tons of fish are caught in the ocean each year, of which 29 million tons is for human consumption. Not many people know that the global fish production exceeds that of cattle, sheep, poultry or eggs. Without the efforts of scientists and aquaculture technologies we will eventually deplete the ocean of all its consumable fish leaving more than 3.5 billion people without a primary food source. This lab has exposed me to many scientific inquiries regarding the sustainability of aquaculture and the protection of our oceans. In addition to getting used to fish handling, I have been learning new genetic techniques and utilizing novel machines that I hope to utilize in the future."
