Frequently Asked Questions
1. What does "Rush Week" mean?
During Rush Week, there are events that you can attend each in order to learn more about KGD and to meet our sisters. This is also a time for us to get to know you! We hope you attend as many events as possible!
2. Can I still Rush if I can't make it to Info Night or any one of the events?
We understand that other obligations such as late classes, labs and club meetings may interfere with our Rush events, therefore Rush events are not mandatory. However, it is highly encouraged that you come out to as many rush events as possible, it is a great opportunity to learn about KGD and get to meet the sisters during that week.
3. Does rushing cost anything and do I have to be a science major to rush?
No, rushing KGD does not cost you anything! All events are FREE and open to ALL MAJORS.
4. What is the difference between "rushing" and "pledging"?
Rushing is the process of attending the events planned during our Rush Week- a chance for you to learn about KGD, meet the sisters, and decide if it is something you would like to be involved in. If a rushee is offered a bid (an invitation to pledge) at the end of the Rush Week, then she may choose to complete an 8-week pledging process to further get to know the sisters.
5. Is KGD a member of the Panhellenic Association?
No, KGD is an independent academic and professional sorority recognized by CSI (Center for Student Involvement). However, starting from the 2013-2014 school year, KGD will be under the Associated Professionally Affiliated Fraternities and Sororities (APAFS) Greek governing board at UC Davis.
6. What does it mean to be a "Professional" sorority?
KGD is a professional sorority, we differ from social sororities in that we aim to assist the transition of our members as college students to full-time professionals, whether it be continuing onto professional schools or starting a career. However, we do keep our sisterhood close by having sister bonding socials regularly, and attending various Greek events and creating good relations with other sisterhoods and brotherhoods on campus.
7. Does KGD haze?
Absolutely not. We have a Zero Tolerance No Hazing policy, all our members are treated with respect and fairness. As a professional sorority, we value that respect is a two way street, and must be earned by both parties involved. Being a new member does not mean you are of lesser status than members who have participated in KGD longer than you.
8. How often does KGD hold Rush events?
Twice a year, during the beginning of Fall and Spring quarters. Information regarding each Rush will be updated on this website about a month before rush takes place.
9. Does KGD have a house?
In order to keep the dues to a minimum for our members, KGD does not maintain an official sorority house. However, most of our sisters do end up housing together more often than not!
