Check out what Pao Perez is up to!"I am super excited to have found this amazing opportunity as an intern at the Center for Aquaculture Technologies in San Diego, CA. I am able to work alongside molecular, genetic, and marine biologists, and be exposed to revolutionary scientific projects aimed at increasing the sustainability of aquaculture as a food source and economy. 70 to 75 million tons of fish are caught in the ocean each year, of which 29 million tons is for human consumption. Not many people know that the global fish production exceeds that of cattle, sheep, poultry or eggs. Without the efforts of scientists and aquaculture technologies we will eventually deplete the ocean of all its consumable fish leaving more than 3.5 billion people without a primary food source. This lab has exposed me to many scientific inquiries regarding the sustainability of aquaculture and the protection of our oceans. In addition to getting used to fish handling, I have been learning new genetic techniques and utilizing novel machines that I hope to utilize in the future." #KGDsummer
